Howdy!

We are still getting used to the time change around here but really liking the longer daylight hours. Quentin had several days off in a row, so we enjoyed an early spring break.

We spent a whole day thrift shopping, went to an auction one day, and went to Gatlinburg. Now we are tuckered out. πŸ™‚

My favorite thrift store find was this bean cookbook. There are a lot of good recipes I want to try. I will share them with you as I try them.

I am also loving this kitty. She doesn’t beg for food, potty in the floor, or scratch up my furniture. Yes, she’s pretty perfect.

Quentin’s favorite find, by far, was this Star Wars ship. He was happy it came with the pilot and especially happy that the pilot’s card was inside.

It was 68ΒΊ in Gatlinburg on Sunday. It was so nice to be outside and not freeze to death. We visited the aquarium and stayed close enough that we were able to walk and enjoy the weather.

Inside the aquarium. Madison got me this shirt when she was out shopping with Quentin last week. I have made everyone watch each of the Jurassic Park movies twice. They are good sports though. Gotta get ready for the new movie. :)

We have tried some new recipes this week that are definitely keepers.

Made this cake with homemade icing. It is seriously good!

Β We did a little Easter decorating today.

We have had this Easter village since Madison was a baby!

Quentin wants to take extra special care of our fruit trees, blueberry bushes, and grapevines this year. They are all starting to produce a lot of fruit. Friday he sprayed everything with neem oil. The fruit tree spray is for when the trees leave out.

My neighbor gave me two new(to me) houseplants. Houseplants make me happy. πŸ™‚ I had fun repotting them and getting them ready for their new home.

A Christmas cactus(I have always wanted one) and a snake plant. I was happy to see the snake plant in this list for plants that improve indoor air quality.

My seeds are starting to sprout. I moved them outside yesterday.

About 25 caramels, unwrapped

2C. milk chocolate chips

3/4 C. Rice Krispies cereal

1 Arrange caramels on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet. Use the back of a metal spatula or large spoon to flatten caramels to about 1/4″ tickness. Soften caramels in the microwave first, if necessary. Use your fingers to shape as desired.

2 In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips in the microwave according to package directions; stir until smooth. Add cereal and stir until well combined.

3 Coat each flattened caramel in melted chocolate mixture and transfer to waxed paper.

4 Refrigerate until chocolate is solid.

Rainy Day Thrift Shopping

Thrift shopping is perfect for rainy days. We spent the morning thrift shopping and had lunch out. It had warmed up quite a bit when we got home, so I was able to clean up around the yard.

We all found quite a few treasures today. I picked up two candle holders. One for 25 cents and one for $1.50. I used a couple of glass plates that I already had to make a couple of cake stands. Thanks to Pinterest for the idea. πŸ™‚ So for $1.75 I have two adorable cake/cupcake stands.

I was able to find a pair of shorts for Madison and a pair for McKenzie. I am just a wee bit closer to meeting my goal of having spring/summer clothes bought by the time spring rolls around.

021

Madison found a horse model kit for $2 that will be perfect for Animal Anatomy next year. It is a Skilcraft and costs over $150!

022

Bub was in Lego heaven. He found a ton of Legos including older Christmas sets still in the packages(we LOVE Christmas Legos) and a Lego checker game.

There were 2 Christmas trees, a Santa, angel, and a reindeer.

Quentin and I sneaked out early Saturday for a fun morning together including thrift shopping. He enjoys it as much as I do! After Christmas, I always start thinking spring. I like to have all our spring and summer clothes bought up before spring rolls around. Shopping for my girls is easy. We all three wear the same size so it is safe to buy up lots of things in our sizes because chances are somebody will like it. πŸ™‚

I found this outfit at our favorite thrift store. Clothes are only $1 each unless marked otherwise. And we love the 84 year old lady that runs it.

What I got:

Eddie Bauer 3/4 sleeve- $1

Gap Jacket-$3

Ann Taylor Jeans-$1

That’s $5 for a whole outfit, and that makes me happy!

Happy Thrifting,

:)Vicki

Christmas & Birthdays

We go straight from Christmas and into the birthday season around here.Β  Seems like spring arrives in no time at all after 3 birthdays followed up by Valentine’s Day and Easter.

We had an excellent Christmas Eve and Day at home. The past 3 days have been beautiful with spring-like temps. I worked in the garden and flower beds all weekend. Even got 2/3 of the garden tilled. I think every muscle in my body hurts. It’s a good kind of hurt though!

Today we celebrated Bub’s 14th birthday. Time sure has flown by! I love the person he is growing into.

Fishing

It got nice and warm here yesterday. I was glad to see that summer really hadn’t left us. πŸ™‚

We turned our air conditioner on for the third time this summer, and Quentin and the kids even got in the pool!

Early in the day, we did some thrift shopping and stopped by Slaughters to get more coneflowers and another blueberry bush. They were both 25% off. We will keep checking back because last year we bought blueberry bushes late in the season at 75% off, and they are doing well this summer.

Just before dark we all went down to the River with Quentin to fish.

He said it was just no fun by himself, and we could walk the dogs while he waited for something to take his bait.
