Things are slow around here. It has been a cool July overall. Not much has been happening in the garden. We are starting to pick okra and waiting for the tomatoes to ripen.
I need to clean out my expired plants to get ready to plant our fall seedlings. I have never done a fall garden before. I have 18 seedlings each of Kohlrabi, Collards, Broccoli, Swiss Chard, Lettuce, Kale, and cabbage.
The cool weather has made it easy to catch up on all the yard work.
The grass could use some rain.
The Rose of Sharon bushes in the front yard have bloomed.
They look like miniature hibiscus blossoms.
Bonnie sleeping in the flower bed.
A cat in a box.
Lucy’s babies are getting big.
Quentin has been working long hours and hasn’t had a day off in 9 days. We spent Tuesday morning shopping and had lunch in our little town before he went into work. We have a nice thrift store and wonderful Mexican restaurant. Quentin found these two Smurf glasses at the antique store. He collects character glasses and was happy to find his very first two smurf glasses.
Marigolds are blooming all over the garden.
A pretty pot of flowers.
Some pictures Madison took of the goats.
Have a great weekend!
These great big blossoms really know how to make a girl feel special.
We planted the largest, darkest plant 5 years ago, and my father-in-law gave us the two lightest ones as tiny little plants three years ago.
They grow really well here.
Quentin’s cold seems to be making its way through everyone.
Summer colds are the worst.
I mixed up a batch of hot chocolate mix for soothing sore throats. I followed this recipe from Tammy’s Recipes.
Hot Chocolate Mix
2 cups nonfat dry milk
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
1/2 cup dry non-dairy creamer
dash of salt
Combine all ingredients and stir well to mix. Store in an airtight container.
To serve, add 1/4 cup of mix to 8 ounces of hot water, adjusting to taste. Stir and enjoy!
Our garden is still producing quite a bit. Yesterday, we picked beets for the second time.
I wasn’t even sure if we would like pickled beets, but we had some with supper last night and they were great.
There is one more patch of beets that is doing quite well.
Spirit FM is collecting butterflies to encourage cancer patients.
We worked on these Wednesday afternoon.
I like how cheery these turned out.
It is nice and sunny here today and is only supposed to reach 80º.
I love it when its not so hot out.
Enjoy your day!
It got nice and warm here yesterday. I was glad to see that summer really hadn’t left us. 🙂
We turned our air conditioner on for the third time this summer, and Quentin and the kids even got in the pool!
Early in the day, we did some thrift shopping and stopped by Slaughters to get more coneflowers and another blueberry bush. They were both 25% off. We will keep checking back because last year we bought blueberry bushes late in the season at 75% off, and they are doing well this summer.
Just before dark we all went down to the River with Quentin to fish.
He said it was just no fun by himself, and we could walk the dogs while he waited for something to take his bait.
Bambi LOVES to fish.
Enjoy your day!
We received a couple of vintage fabric Christmas ornament panels from my sister over the weekend.
We were very happy to get them.
Me especially since I have been in a sewing mood lately.
The Shirt Tales were my favorite.
I am still using the same jelly roll fabric. They are definitely not traditional Christmas colors.
I (mostly) followed this tutorial. They were super easy and fun to make.
