The temps have been pretty cold here! Our animals are all tucked in for winter. I couldn’t help but think how much I love our little homestead when we tucked in the “meat birds” too, and as Bub fed his pet “meat bird” on the back steps. πŸ™‚

Love this picture of my babies.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.Β  We spent our day at home with good food and family. It doesn’t get any better than that!

Now it is that time of year. Time for Christmas fun!

I can’t think of a better reason to celebrate than the birth of our Savior!

A couple of weeks ago Quentin and Bub each got a deer on the same day. So exciting. We now have 4 deer in the freezer.

We use the meat in just about everything-quesadillas, tacos, fajitas, BBQ, lasagna. This year we made bone stock for the first time. You can roast the bones first to make your stock darker, but I know what that smells like. πŸ™‚

To this we added more bones, celery, carrots, garlic, and onions.

We have several recipes that call for venison stock. Can't wait to try it out.

The forecast for today is sunny and 52ΒΊ. I hope to get outside this evening to clear out all the flower beds.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

  1. Hi, Vicki,
So glad you all had a good Thanksgiving. πŸ™‚ Your pies look yummy!
Your tree is so pretty. My husband wanted to put ours up before Thanksgiving this year, so this is the earliest ours has been up in years!
So happy for you and all the deer meat! What a blessing that is! My dad and brother are both hunters, so I’ve had lots of it over the years. πŸ™‚
Take care and have a good week!

  2. It looks like you’re all having a wonderful fall even if it feels like winter already. It’s been really cold here in Tennessee, too. Hooray for your son and husband getting more deer for the freezer. Your pies look so delicious, especially the chocolate one! Love the silkies and guineas. Have a great week!

  3. Isn’t that cozy feeling wonderful and to have everyone in the same room doing something they enjoy. Four deer! You must have a large freezer. That would sure help on the meat bill I would think! Yes, Jesus is the Reason for the Season! Nancy

  4. I too really enjoy the snuggle in seasons. *smile* It’s that time of year again, when we are focused on thankfulness. I am thankful for this time of year when our family also focused on the birth of our Savior, though we do that every day we actually celebrate it in December. *smile* He is a good and mighty King and I am so thankful we please Him so much that He chooses to bless us with more than we could ever dream of. *big smile* Have a lovely day and thank you for sharing the many blessings in your life; healthy family, tasty pies (mmm), sucessful hunt, canned goodness, meat birds and so much. *smile* Sinerely, Mommy of two growing blessings & so much more!

  5. It looks like you all had a wonderful family Thanksgiving, how nice. I love your tree. What a great feeling to have plenty of meat in the freezer. Great idea about the stock.
    Take care

  6. I was wondering if you had your tree yet. It looks really good. I love the new nativity. The venison stock looks really good. Have you used any of it yet? Call me and we’ll work out a time to get together, okay. God bless.
